Dwars door Vlaanderen 2016: Favourites

Dwars door Vlaanderen is Flanders Finest's little brother containing fewer hills and fewer cobbles and, unfortunately, a lesser start list. That said, with two time winner Niki Terpstra, title holder Jelle Wallays and homerider Greg Van Avermaet on a winning streak, there is enough to look forward to. Cyclingstage.com brings you the major contenders to win Dwars door Vlaanderen 2016.

With a accumulation of hills in the second part of the race, it’s a fair bet the fireworks will be detonated there. The last peak is crested with 8 kilometres left.

Greg Van Avermaet is top favourite. The homerider is on a winning streak, besting Peter Sagan in both Omloop het Nieuwsblad and Tirreno-Adriatico. In Omloop his 22-year old compatriot Tiesj Benoot was very strong as well, so he is another rider to watch. Same holds true for Jasper Stuyven, another young (Belgian rider, who took Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne after a brilliant solo. Potentially a sprinter, Stuyven is not afraid of short (cobbled) clims.

Niki Terpstra (2012, 2014), Oscar Gatto (2013) and Jelle Wallays (2015) know what it’s like to win Dwars door Vlaanderen.
