Giro 2021: Stage winner Bernal climbs into pink jersey

Egan Bernal powers to victory in the steep and unpaved last kilometre of stage 9. Giulio Ciccone, finishes in second, Aleksandr Vlasov in third. The Colombian moves into the maglia rosa and leads the race 15 seconds ahead of Remco Evenepoel with Vlasov another 6 seconds further behind.

Sunday 16 May - The 9th stage of the Giro is a tough test of 158 kilometres in the Apennine Mountains. The route takes in 3,400 vertical metres, while the finale at Campo Felice is extremely steep and unpaved in the last kilometres.

The 9th stage is a lumpy race from start to finish. The climbs are never excessively steep - that is, until the finale. The finish climb not only serves double digit gradients, but also unpaved roads.
