Race report
Anne Knijnenburg is the first attacker to open up a gap before she is reeled in after 20 kilometres.

Then Clara Emond and Quinty Schoens give it a shot. The two open up a 15 seconds gap when the gap is neutralised. The peloton is bunched again at the neutral re-start, an hour later. The riders cycle to the finish line for the second ‘start proper’ of the day. So, the net course is down to three laps on the local circuit.

Attacks are flying from the re-start, but no break until the first climb up the Cauberg. Elisa Longo Borghini attacks with Kasia Niewiadoma, Elise Chabbey, Amber Kraak and Anna Henderson in her wheel, while Demi Vollering tracks them down. The peloton regains contact on the Geulhemmerberg.

Eva van Agt sneaks away after the summit, and Yara Kastelijn and Ricarda Bauernfeind go with her. The three open up a 1.30 minutes lead, which is down to 30 seconds when the bell for the final lap rings. The gap bounces back to 1 minute in the run-up to the Bemelerberg, while Kastelijn loses contact in the climb. The Tour de France stage winner makes it back after the summit.

The trio is caught early in last drag up the Cauberg and a reduced peloton reaches the summit bunched. Then it comes down to a clash of fast finishers. Elisa Longo Borghini opens the sprint, but Lorena Wiebes takes over. She is heading for the win in her home race and throws her arms in the air, only to see Marianne Vos comes storming past on the left.
