The fifth edition of the Tour of Oman began on Tuesday, February 18th 2014 , finishing 6 stages later on Sunday the 23rd. The last of what is now three races in the Middle East, Oman will finally present an opportunity for the climbers to stretch their legs while the sprinters will fancy their chances on the opening stages. Oman is not a race for the vertically challenged and contains some serious climbs where riders with grand tour ambitions come out to play after the winter slumber. Tour de France champion Chris Froome won the 2013 edition with Cadel Evans and Alberto Contador providing good company on the podium. With many of Froome’s July challengers attending again in 2014, expect some early warning shots fired, especially on the Queen stage up Green Mountain.
