World Cycling Championships 2026: Route ITT (m/w)

Sunday 20 September — In the battle for time trial gold, the riders in Montreal face a 39.2-kilometre course with 220 metres of elevation gain. Just before the finish line comes the hardest section, a 560-metre climb averaging 4%. The men and women race over exactly the same course.

The rideers roll off the ramp on Avenue du Parc and head slightly downhill towards the Saint Lawrence. Following the riverbank, they race along pan-flat roads towards the Samuel De Champlain Bridge. They cross the water, although not quite all the way, as they turn off before reaching the opposite bank and ride onto the Lawrence Seaway Dike. They follow it northwards, with water on either side, as the dike runs right through the middle of the river.

The Lawrence Seaway Dike leads onto Île Notre-Dame, home of the Montreal Grand Prix. The riders complete one and a half laps of the F1 circuit before crossing the Pont de la Concorde and racing back towards the city. In the port area, they rejoin the route they covered earlier in the opposite direction. Once again, they follow the Saint Lawrence, only this time they continue further along a dead-straight 3.3-kilometre section.

After a U-turn, they head back along another 2.3 kilometres of equally straight road before leaving the river and making their way back towards the start area. This also means they have to climb the shallow-gradient section they descended at the beginning.

The final 560 metres provide a sting in the tail, as the road climbs at 4% to the finish line.

There are three intermediate timing points, at 10.7, 21.9 and 29.8 kilometres.

The women start at 9:00 and the men at 12:45 local time (TDE).

Weather forecast:
The conditions are expected to be ideal for a time trial. There will be barely any wind, while temperatures should be perfect for giving it everything. It will be around 12°C in the morning, with temperatures rising to 18°C over the course of the day.
