The Summer Olympics of Tokyo take place between 23 July and 8 August 2021. The road cycling events are scheduled in the first week of the event. The men’s road race takes in the lower slopes of Mount Fuji and the steep Mikuni Pass, but these key climbs are removed from the women’s race. The individual time trials for both men and women are played out on lumpy courses. (Slideshow route/profile)
Anna van der Breggen and Greg Van Avermaet are the title defenders in the road races, while the Olympic ITT champions of Rio 2016, Kristin Armstrong and Fabian Cancellara, are both retired.
