The riders enter the first gravel sector after 14 kilometres. The road in Cinigiano goes uphill, so this is hardcore Strade Bianche material. After the descent the road goes uphill again for 10 kilometres, but this ascent is on asphalt.
On lumpy terrain the route continues towards the Monte Amiata, which is a lava dome in the southern part of Tuscany. The riders traverse the western flank of the mountain.
The hardest section of the day is 4 kilometres on unpaved roads to Seggiano. The riders move through the village to plunge down an 11 kilometres drop to the slightly uphill finish in Arcidosso.
