One could argue that, apart for those two climbs, the route of stage 5 is flat. And, frankly, the ascents are nothing special. After 54 kilometres in the saddle – 20 of which run false flat uphill – the riders reach Itri before a long and gradual downhill leads onto the other climb. It goes to Monte San Biagio, a village on a modest hill.
After Monte San Bagio the route continues onto a flat final section of 20 kilometres.
