Giro Rosa 2018 Route stage 2: Ovada - Ovada

Giro Rosa 2018 stage 2Saturday, 7 July 2018 - The 2nd stage of the Giro Rosa begins and ends in Ovada. At 120.4 kilometres, the women race a hilly route, although the finale is played out on the flat.

The Giro Rosa’s 2nd stage takes in two laps. The first one lies northwest of Ovada and amounts to 54 kilometres. Following a flat opening it doesn’t take long for the route to go uphill and it will do so for the first 8 kilometres. The actual climb is 6 kilometres at 3.1%. Then a false flat and a sharp descent lead to a rolling section before a 3 kilometres climb at 4% appears. Over the top the route continues in undulating fashion before a punchy 1 kilometre ramp leads to a drop down to the first passage on the line.

The second round is played out to the northeast of Ovada. Shortly after the first passage on the line the riders tackle a 1.6 kilometres climb at 6.4% before the route continues as hilly as it did before, although the slopes are not that sharp anymore. With 25 kilometres to go the terrain changes and the rest of the route is as good as flat. The last kilometre is a false flat.

The first three riders on the line take time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while the two intermediate sprints (at kilometre 27.2 and at kilometre 96.6) come with 3, 2 and 1 seconds.
