Two years ago the Giro Rosa visited Verbania, too. It was the last stage of that edition and the race ran chiefly on the same roads, although the finale took in a hilly loop that’s not in the TTT. Attacker Thalita de Jong soloed to victory in 2016.
The TTT’s route is all but technical. The course runs on straight roads so high speeds are to be expected. In this respect, the route is similar to last year’s TTT – although that course was 4 kilometres shorter. Boels Dolmans powered to the win, ahead of Team Sunweb and Orica Scott, and Karol-Ann Canuel took the first maglia rosa of that edition.
The 15.5 kilometres route features a 600 metres stretch with a 3% gradient, which basically is the only ‘obstacle’ the riders face. The stretch begins at kilometre 6.
