De riders clip into their pedals in Villanueva Mesía, a village on the rolling plains to the west of Granada. The shortest route to the finish town is 43 kilometres long, but the organisation proposes a detour. The riders tackle two uphills before reaching Granada for the first time from the northeast.
The riders move through Granada to leave the city on the south side and tackle Alto del Purche. The ascent is 9 kilometres long, while the average gradient sits at 7.5%.
The Purche also featured on last year’s Queen Stage, which was won by Simon Yates. Back then, the riders descended into Granada only to return for a mountainous final lap in the Sierra Nevada.
This time the Purche downhill serves as the finale of the race. The descent to the line is 17.7 kilometres long.
