Race report
Elise Chabbey wins the first two QOM sprints on the San Pantaleone climb to move into the lead of the mountain classification. Then Francesca Pisciali gives it a go. Her lead remains limited until she is reeled in with 48 kilometres to go.
In the descent of the following climb a group if five riders go clear. After they are caught Alessia Viglia jumps off the front. She puts more than 1 minute into the peloton before she is brought back as well.
Victoire Berteau jumps clear on the way to Bergamo and opens a 1 minute gap, while Giorgia Bariani goes after her. It’s in vain, as the favourites take the reins on the Bergamo climb.
Mavi García, Elisa Longo Borghini and Marianne Vos open a small gap in the old town before the favourites regroup in the descent to the city centre. Marianne Vos doesn’t mind and she wins the sprint in commanding fashion ahead of Lotte Kopecky and Silvia Persico.
Annemiek van Vleuten finishes in the first group to stay in the lead of the general classification.
