Actually, the 6th stage is a criterium race in Sarnico before a flat intermediate section of 15 kilometrestakes the riders to the finale in Bergamo. The local lap in Sarnico is 18 kilometres long and includes a short and sharp climb – 1.5 kilometres at 12%. Since the riders complete the lap five times the ramp is also five times on the menu.
The riders then leave Sarnico behind to continue towards Bergamo. With 4.5 kilometres to go they tackle the Colle Aperto, a ramp of 1.6 kilometres at 7.9% with the last part on pebble paving. After a short stint in La Citta Alta – or, old town – the route flies down to the line on the Viale Giovanni XXIII.
The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
