Giro Donne 2022 Route stage 9: San Michelle All’Adige - San Lorenzo Dorsino
Saturday 9 July - The 112.8 kilometres long race from San Michelle All'Adige to San Lorenzo Dorsino takes in three big climbs. The steep Passo Danone is the last one before a downhill leads onto an undulating finale of 17 kilometres.
After 10 kilometres on the flat the route starts to climb to ski resort Fai Della Paganella. The first 8 kilometres are the hardest part, while the ascent totals 11.6 kilometres and averages 6.3%.
A long descent leads to the foot of the Passo Duron. This climb is 9.9 kilometres long with an average gradient of 5.6%. The riders reach the summit just after the midway marker of the race.
A 6 kilometres descent leads onto a false flat and ultimately the Passo Danone. This is a brutal ascent – 6.2 kilometres long and the average gradient sits at 10.9%. Still 26 kilometres to go at the top.
The first 9 kilometres are on descent and after moving through Preore the route continues false flat, following the river Sarca upstream. After leaving the valley the riders tackle a 1.5 kilometres climb at 5% before entering a 3 kilometres descent towards San Lorenzo Dorsino. The route returns to climb again in the last 2.5 kilometres with the gradient at roughly 5%.
The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
