Tour Down Under 2024 Route stage 3: Tea Tree Gully - Campbelltown

Tour Down Under 2024 stage 3Thursday 18 January - Stage 3 takes in 2,211 metres of climbing in 145.3 kilometres. As most elevation gain is spread out over the route we are likely to see a bunch sprint in Campbelltown.

The route climbs virtually from the start. The ascent is 2.1 kilometres long and averages 6.5%. With this, the hardest climb of the day is history. The rest of the route travels on undulating terrain. The Whispering Wall climb at kilometre 35 is also classified as a KOM, although it’s actually more of a false flat.

Another false flat section begins after 50 kilometres and is almost 15 kilometres long. The riders reach an elevation of 500 metres and stay at that altitude for tens of kilometres.

Finally, the route descends inside the last 13 kilometres to a flat finale.

Campbelltown is a regular host of stage finishes in the Tour Down Under. Pello Bilbao outsprinted Simon Yates and Jay Vine last year, but that finale featured the Corkscrew road climb.

This year’s finale was last used in 2017. Back then, Caleb Ewan outsprinted Peter Sagan and Danny van Poppel.

Two intermediate sprints come with 3, 2 and 1 seconds each, while the first three riders on the line take time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
