Edition 20 of the Tour Down Under is held from Tuesday, 16 January, to Sunday, 21 January 2018. Most European riders regard the race as merely a good training, while Australians think of it as the first goal of the year. No wonder they are in good shape: the Australian National Championships are held a few days before the start of the Tour Down Under. The six-day race is competed in Adelaide, South Australia. In 2017 Richie Porte won his home race ahead of Esteban Chaves and Jay McCarthy.
