Race report
Fabian Lienhard, Johan Jacobs, Roberto Carlos González, Christoph Janssen, and Luca Jenny establish the breakaway early on. The five ride to a maximum lead of 4 minutes.
When the leaders enter the hilly zone, the gap has fallen to 30 seconds. Johan Jacobs heads out alone to extend his lead to 1 minute, but he is caught with 18 kilometres remaining.
Despite several attempts, the pack remains bunched until Marc Hirschi strikes with 3 kilometres to go. He opens up a gap before being caught inside the last kilometre.
Then, Wilco Kelderman launches an attack with a massive gear. Thibau Nys chooses his wheel, and uses the Dutchman as his lead-out for the Belgian. In the final 150 meters, Nys accelerates. Stephen Williams and Alberto Bettiol try to come across, but they fail to do so. Nys wins convincingly.
Bettiol finishes third to take the leader’s jersey.
