UAE Tour 2020: Pogacar takes five-up sprint, Yates wins GC

The UAE Tour ascends Jebel Hafeet again on stage 5. Tadej Pogacar outsprints Alexey Lutsenko, Adam Yates, David Gaudu and Ilnur Zakarin at the end of the 10.8 kilometres climb. The GC turns out to be the final GC and Adam Yates wins the 2020 edition of the UAE Tour. (Slideshow route/profile)

Race report
Knox and Van der Sande open up a gap at kilometre 5, while Warbasse, Scaroni and Garosio bridge across. The five race to a maximum lead of more than 6 minutes.

The lead group tackles the finish climb 2.10 minutes ahead of the peloton, while Knox makes a move with 9.4 kilometres out. Yates, Pogacar, Gaudu, Loetsenko and Zakarin bring him back 3.4 kilometres from the line.

Yates goes when the climb evens out inside the last 2.5 kilometres, while Pogacar rejoins him before the others regain contact inside the last kilometre.

Pogacar, Lutsenko and Yates sprint into the sweeping final turn, where the race leader loses contact and Lutsenko emerges first. For a moment he seems to turn out on top, but Pogacar wins the sprint with a well-timed jump to the line.
