Race report
No rider feels the urge to attack in the first 22 kilometres. Then Steels, Campenaerts, De Buyst and Marengo go clear to open up a gap of more than 7 minutes.
The leaders reach the gates of the climb 10 seconds ahead of the main group before they are brought back.
Victor de la Parte accelerates with 7 kilometres to go. Merhawi Kudus tries to bridge across, but they are both caught when Adam Yates speeds up. David Gaudu and Alexey Lutsenko go with the Briton.
That is, for a while. Yates leaves the two behind, while Tadej Pogacar joins Gaudu and Lutsenko. The Slovene continues with Lutsenko, but Yates is simply too strong. He widens the gap and when Pogacar leaves Lutsenko behind with 3 kilometres to go the lead is already 40 seconds.
Yates is flying and he wins the race more than 1 minute ahead of Pogacar with the other chasers 1.30 minutes or more behind.
