For 24.5 kilometres, riders race against the clock across rolling terrain around Worb. The steepest section is between kilometres 7 and 11, going up at an average gradient of 5%. The first time check is at this point.
The second time check is at kilometre 18, around 1 kilometre after the highest point of the second (but less steep) ascent.
The route is tailor made for riders like Bradley Wiggins. Today is his chance to win a lot of time on his GC rivals.
The most fascinating thing to say about Worb is the fact that the Tour de Suisse is visiting in 2104! You’ll find a castle (private property), 11.000 people and a brewery.
The brewery was founded in 1863 by Gottfried Egger. The man was a master of marketing, serving Egger beer on New Year’s Eve 1864 – after mass of course! The strongest beer in anno 2014 is called Maximus. It sounds ferocious, but has a modest 5.8%.
The first rider starts around 13:12 (CET) and the last one at 16:30 and the winning time will be around 32 minutes.
