Koersverloop
Laurence Pithie, Victor Campenaerts and Johan Jacobs jump off the front at kilometre 5. The trio opens up a maximum gap of 2 minutes.

Pithie and Jacobs are dropped on the Côte de Levens. Pithie is swallowed by the bunch, while De Plus, Armirail, Battistella, Scaroni, Jacobs, Izagirre, Bilbao, Costiou, Pacher, Sweeny, Barta and Guerreiro rejoin Jacobs. It’s to no avail, as the GC group does not dilly-dally and brings them back as well.

Campenaerts is caught at the base of the Côte de Peille and Remco Evenepoel ups the pace. The other GC favorites follow his move. He tries again, and again… until only Matteo Jorgenson remains in his wheel. Aleksandr Vlasov comes across 1.2 kilometres before the summit. The trio reaches the summit 15 seconds ahead of yellow jersey Brandon McNulty.

Jorgenson, Evenepoel and Vlasov widen their lead over Brandon McNulty, Mattias Skjelmose, Luke Plapp, Primoz Roglic and Christian Scaroni on descent before Jorgenson takes a time bonus of 6 seconds on the Col d’Èze.

Evenepoel sets the pace on the Col des Quatre Chemins and Vlasov loses contact, but Jorgenson follows the Belgian’s wheel like a shadow. Evenepoel is the first rider to reach the summit and he wins the KOM classification. He also wins the sprint for the stage win, while Jorgenson wins the overall.
