From the start, the road gently climbs towards Cepagati. Following a brief descent, the route then continues on a false flat towards the base of a 2.2 kilometres climb at 5.2% to Catignano.
Following the intermediate sprint in Catignano, the road continues to climb on the Forca di Penne: 19 kilometres at 3.9%. The route flattens out at the summit and and then descends shortly to the foot of the climb to Castel del Monte. The riders ascend 13.7 kilometres at an average gradient of 4.7% before reaching the mountain village at 1,326 metres above sea level.
After a short descent, the route climbs again for a few kilometres on a false flat before the long descent towards San Gregorio begins. The downhill is occasionally interrupted by sections of gently ascending false flat.
There are 12.7 kilometres remaining in San Gregorio. This section starts on the flat before two punchy climbs spice up the finale in the last 6 kilometres. The first climbs 1.7 kilometres at 7.2% to Acquasanta, while the second starts with 800 metres at 3% and steepens to an average gradient of 7.6% in the final kilometre.
The first three riders on the line earn time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
The race is expected to finish at 14:30 CEST.
