The Tour de Romandie sets off on a fast but not entirely flat route. A cobbled uphill at kilometre 1.5 could break the pace, bot still, specialists will indulge themselves on the route. Campenaerts is a prominent contender, but he is not the only time triallist at the start. Tony Martin, Primoz Roglic, Geraint Thomas, Jos van Emden, Stefan Küng and Dylan van Baarle are also competing in Romandie.
Last year, Michael Matthews won the prologue with a strong performance on a route with cobbles and double digits ramps.
