Tour de Romandie 2014 Route stage 3: Le Bouveret-Aigle
Friday, May 2nd, 2014 marks the toughest stage of the Tour de Romandie. The riders travel 180.2 kilometres from Le Bouveret to Aigle with 4 category 1 climbs along the way. (Slideshow route/profile)
The climbing today is evenly distributed throughout the stage with the toughest climb coming last. It’s not a summit finish however with the last few kilometres being flat.
The first pass is the Col des Planches , a climb of 11.4 kilometres with an average gradient of 8.2 %.The summit is at 1,411 metres. After the descent, the riders travel up to Champex – Lac, the highest point of the day at 1,470 metres.The ascent is 11.65 kilometres with a 7.2 % average.
The riders then descend down to Martigny, there second time in the town after also starting the Col des Planches in this area. The ride on to Saint -Maurice where the mountains begin again. The first is Les Giettes, a luxury eco-resort at 1,136 metres. After the descent, they approach the valley road to Villars – sur – Ollon, with the summit at 1,255 metres. The climb is long but with a gentle enough average of 5%. However, the middle section is quite steep with the earlier slopes being more of a false flat.
After a short, steep descent theres a few flat kilometres until the finish line.
The stage starts at 12:05 (CET) and the finish is expected around 17:10 .
