Tour de Romandie 2014 Route prologue: Ascona

Chris FroomeTuesday April 29 2014 – The Tour de Romandie opens with a 5.57 kilometre prologue in Ascona. Expect high average speeds on a flat parcours. (Slideshow route/profile)

The first kilomtre is totally flat with the riders then descending 500 metres over the rest of the course. Bike handling skills will not really come into play as there are not many tough corners. 2013 saw Chris Froome win the prologue and then defend his lead for the whole race.

Ascona is beautifully situated on the Suisse side of Lago Maggiore.

Romandie is becoming a good omen for Tour favourites – the last three year’s have seen the Romandie winner going on to win the Tour – Froome (2013), Wiggins (2012) and Evans (2011).

The first rider leaves at 14:43 CET and the arrival of the last one is expected around 17:30.
