Tour de Pologne 2020 Route stage 4: Bukovina Resort - Bukovina Tatranska
Saturday 8 August - The only climb stage of the Tour de Pologne unfolds in the High Tatra Mountains. The 173 kilometres race comprises three identical laps and a grueling uphill finish.
The circuit is 48.5 kilometres long and includes the Ściana Harnaś and Ściana Bukovina. The Polish word Ściana is the equivalent of Wall, so the riders are up for a day with multiple extremely steep climbs.
The Ściana Harnaś appears in the first part of each lap. The 2 kilometres climb of 6.5% is ferocious in the first half, which features stretches up to 18%.
The riders tackle the Ściana Bukovina roughly 40 kilometres into each lap. The first part is relatively easy with gradients hovering around 3 to 4%, but the second half is not as welcoming with ramps up to 22%.
After summiting the Ściana the route plunges down to the foot of the Wierch Rusiński. This 1.7 kilometres climb at 7.2% leads onto a steep downhill on a narrow road. In most rounds the race continues onto the Ścianę Harnaś, but not in the final lap. The route turns right to enter the finish climb of 1.5 kilometres at 11%. The road levels out near the line.
The Bukovina stage is a regular on the Tour de Polen. Matej Mohoric triumphed last year on the tough course, while Pavel Sivakov sealed the GC victory that day.
The intermediate sprints come with 3, 2 and 1 seconds, while time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds are awarded to the first three riders on the line.
The race is expected to finish around 18.50 local time (CEST).
