The route from Wadowice – birthplace of Pope John Paulus II – to Bielsko-Biala is going either up or down. Three ascents attract special attention, while two of these are tackled more than once. We are referring to Wielka Puszcza (1.25 kilometres at 5.6% – three times), Kocierz (3.7 kilometres at 6.3% – twice) and Przełęcz Przegibek (6.6 kilometres at 4.9% – once).
The Przegibek is crested with 40 kilometres remaining and shortly after the descent the riders enter a local lap of 7.2 kilometres. It is basically all false flat – 3 kilometres up and 4.2 kilometres down. The finish line lies after the uphill stretch of 3 kilometres.
The finishing circuit is tackled three times before the uphill home straight.
The finale of last year’s Bielsko-Biała stage was similar to this one, although the route itself was not as hard. Luka Mezgec sprinted to victory ahead of Eduard Prades and Ben Swift.
The intermediate sprints come with 3, 2 and 1 seconds, while time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds are awarded to the first three riders on the line.
The race is expected to finish around 16.30 local time (CEST).
