Vienne is a small town just south of Lyon and the route continues further south on a virtually straight line to Bollène. The parcours runs mainly through the Rhône Valley, which means strong winds are a likely scenario. The valley is known for the mistral, sustained winds as strong as 185 km/h that are most common in the transition between the winter and the spring.
The course is nothing special. Two moderate ascents in the last 35 kilometres, and that’s it. The Côte de Restitut is a 1.4 kilometres climb at 4.8% and with 16 kilometres out the riders move through Derboux, a village situated on a false flat section of 1.5 kilometres long. This is also the location of the second intermediate sprint.
The first thee riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while two intermediate sprints – at kilometre 57 and 187 – come with 3, 2 and 1 seconds.
