Gien is a town on the banks of the Loire river, roughly 150 kilometres below Paris. Pierre Rolland was born here 34 years ago.
The first 2 kilometres are flat before the route starts to run slightly uphill. On a wide road the riders climb 1 kilometre at 3.8%. On the flat the route continues until a nasty kick at 6.3% appears in the final 400 metres.
The intermediate check points is located at kilometre 7.
