The race is entirely played out on Al Hudayriat Island. It is a fairly straightforward affair with only two sharp turns. So the pace will be high since the route is as flat as can be.
BMC used to be the squad that mostly turned out on top in recent years, yet the team disbanded. Who are going to fill the gap? World Champion Deceuninck-Quick Step? Dumoulin’s Sunweb? Froome’s Sky? And what about Bahrain Merida with their newly acquired engine Rohan Dennis?
The UAE Tour boasts a stellar start list, that’s for sure. And although the GC-battle problably will come down to stage 3 and stage 6, we should expect fireworks in the TTT. Tom Dumoulin is backed-up by Wilco Kelderman, Chris Froome by Michal Kwiatkowski and Gianni Moscon, while Dennis is the lieutenant of Vincenzo Nibali.
