Stage report
Charles Planet and Stepan Kuriyanov are the breakaway specialists of the inaugural UAE Tour. Once again they jump clear, this time with Fabio Calabria, who also has been on the attack before, Shilov and Vorobyev. The five widen the gap to more than 4 minutes before they are brought back inside the last 35 kilometres.
Elia Viviani outguns his rivals in the ensuing bunch sprint. Fernando Gaviria, Marcel Kittel and Sam Bennett are spread across the road, but he outguns them and wins the race by a half a bike length.
With only tomorrow’s decisive summit finish on Jebel Jais left, Primoz Roglic is comfortably leading the GC.
