Tour of the Alps 2019 Route stage 4: Balselga di Pinè - Cles
Thursday 25 April - The penultimate stage of the Tour of the Alps includes two huge intermediate climbs and a Wall in the finale. The route amounts to 134 kilometres.
The race commences at breakneck speeds as the first 16 kilometres run downhill before a flat section through the Adige valley goes to the Non valley, where the first uphill kicks in. The 5 kilometres climb to Campodenno slopes at approximately 5%. On undulating terrain the riders continue to the first passage on the line in Cles at kilometre 55.
A false flat leads to the foot of the Forcella di Brez, which is a 5.9 kilometres climb with an average gradient of 10.2%. The summit at an elevation of 1,391 metres is crested after 73 kilometres.
A long descent with some minor uphill kicks runs to Mollaro. The riders tackle the Passo Predaia – 10 kilometres at 7.5% with the second half most demanding. An 11 kilometres descent flies down to the base of the Sanzennone climb, or, as the locals prefer to call it, La Puntara. The average gradient of the 2 kilometres climb is 7%, but the central kilometre slopes at 11% while the steepest ramp is 15%. The last 3 kilometres of the route are flat.
The first three riders on the line win time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
