Following two minor uphills inside the first 40 kilometres the riders reach Bolzano for the first passage. A false flat takes them to Ponte Gardena, at kilometre 67, where the 5 kilometres incline to Barbiano begins. The route moves through the mountain village with its leaning tower to continue with a 3 kilometres descent. Then the route goes back up again to climb to the plateau surrounding Collalbo. The full Ponte Gardena-Collabo ascent is 17.2 kilometres at 4%, although that gradient is based by the downhill before the halfway mark and a rolling section before the top.
The riders fly down a 19 kilometres descent back to Bolzano, where they tackle the ascent to San Genesio. The last climb of the 2019 Tour of the Alps is 9.5 kilometres and the average gradient is 8.5%. A few kilometres on the flat leads to the final uphill kick to Altopiano del Salto, which includes ramps up to 13%.
A 17 kilometres downhill takes the riders to Terlano for a flat run-in of 8 kilometres to the line in Bolzano.
The first three riders on the line win time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
The race is expected to finish around 15:30 – local time.
