Race report
Straight from the gun the route starts to climb. Hugh Carthy opens up a gap before eleven men rejoins him. The Briton goes again to reach the crest approximately half a minute ahead of Lennard Kämna, Fabio Aru, Marc Soler, Mathias Frank and Simon Spilak.
Aru can’t follow the pace on the St. Gotthard, while Soler and Kämna drop back on the lower slopes of the Furka. Frank and Spilak are brought back before the summit, which Carthy reaches 3 minutes ahead of the first two chasers, Rohan Dennis and Egan Bernal.
Dennis puts pressure on the Colombian, but can’t drop him. Meanwhile Carthy completes his brave solo and wins the stage.
Egan Bernal wins the 2019 Tour de Suisse ahead of Rohan Dennis and Patrick Konrad.
