Ollon lies to the south-west of Lake Geneva. Spreading from the Rhône, at an elevation of 391 metres, to the Chamossaire, at 2,112 metres, the municipality covers quite an area. Ollon is renowned for its fine wines and Villars – arrival place for yesterday’s stage – is a renowned skiing area.
Today’s stage leaves from the lower parts, but with 20 kilometres done the climb up to Châtel-St-Denis takes the riders to an elevation of 807 metres. On rolling roads the route brings them to an altitude of 934 metres, the highest point of the day, after which the race is mostly downhill. The final 23 kilometres are flat.
The Tour de Romandie visited Geneva in 2013 with a closing time trial, which was won by Tony Martin. Overall winner Chris Froome finished in third.
Last year the Tour de Romandie closed with an ITT and once again Tony Martin was fastest with the overall winner finishing in third. This time, however, it was Ilnur Zakarin taking the overall. He did so in the streets of Lausanne.
