Due to bad weather the race is shortened at the eleventh hour. Normally the start would have been in La Chaux-de-Fonds, now the riders start in Mathod, which lies 500 metres lower. This means the distance is shortened by around 60 kilometres. It alos means, the 2nd category climb up Col des Etroits, normally crested with 47.9 kilometres done, is skipped from the road book.
In last edition of the Tour de Romandie two stages boiled down to a bunch sprint. On both occasions it was Michael Albasini powering to glory.
After skipping Col des Etroits, three 3rd category cols mark the route. These are ascents op to Arrisoules, Surpierre and Vauderens. The top of the last climb is crested with 29 kilometres remaining. A rolling section takes the riders to a short drop with 5 kilometres left to race.
