The route is situated close to the Italian-Slovenian border. The riders move through Gorizia early on, the town right on the border where Victor Campenaerts outsprinted Oscar Riesebeek in this year’s men’s Giro.
After Gorizia the women ride on the same road as the men, but in the opposite direction, to San Floriano del Collio. This way it’s a climb of 6 kilometres with an average gradient of aproximately 3%.
The route descends to Cormons, only to return to Capriva del Friuli. In the process, the riders tackle a climb similar to the first one, but shorter.
The same climb is included two more times, on the last occasion with 9 kilometres out. The rest of the route is flat to undulating.
