The opening of the race travels on the flat towards Attimis. Before reaching the village the route starts to climb false flat and the last kilometres are a short ascent.
After Attimis the route continues on predominantly flat roads to San Leonardo. That’s where a 6 kilometres climb at 7.1% kicks in. Some riders may remember it from the 2018, when it served as the last climb of the last stage. The finish was downhill in Cividale del Friuli and Annemiek van Vleuten took both the stage honours and the pink jersey.
The riders move through Cividale del Friuli to continue further down. After more than 10 kilometres in the valley the finish climb appears.
The Monte Matajur is a monster. Starting from Savogna the climb adds up to 14.6 kilometres, although the first part is relatively easy. The gradients increase with 8.3 kilometres to go on a sector of 2.5 kilometres at 6.6%, which is really a warm-up for the brutal finale. The rest of the climb goes up at 10.5%, while the steepest ramp at 15% appears just before the line.
