Why oh why does one of the most beautiful multi-day stage-races for women still takes place simultaneously with the most prestigious men’s race on the agenda? On the day that the Tour de France sets off in Brussels the women in the Giro Rosa tackle the Colle del Lys early on. The first 6 kilometres slope at 6.6% before the climb levels out for a while, only to bounce back to almost 6% in the last 2 kilometres. The Lys is crested at kilometre 18.
The route descents to the Po Plain to continue on the flat to a false flat finale. The last 15 kilometres are all uphill, although at shallow gradients. Occasionally the route kicks up to 5 or 6%, but that’s it.
