A couple of early mountain points on offer but in reality the stage is quite easy until the final climb to Montecassino.
The ascent is 8.6 kilometres with an average gradient of 5.2%. It is not the length making this one a tough hurdle, it’s the irregular nature of the climb, not one for the diesels. One moment the road is a false flat and all of a sudden it’s 10%. The climb contains a lot of hairpins and the last section has slopes of 15%. It’s one for punchy climbers….Rodriguez must be licking his lips!
On Strava Stefano Pellegrini is KOM with a time of 20.38, a little under 25 kilometres per hour.
