World Cycling Championships 2022: Favourites + start times ITT – women
image: Cor VosMarlen Reusser and Ellen van Dijk are the World's best time trialists on a pan flat course. But since the route takes in two short climbs Olympic ITT Champion Annemiek van Vleuten is another candidate for the rainbow stripes.
Annemiek van Vleuten won ITT gold twice before – in Bergen (2017) and Innsbruck (2018). The route in Innsbruck was similar to the one in Wollongong. The now retired Anna van der Breggen finishes in second, Ellen van Dijk in third, while Marlen Reusser did not participate.
The Swiss powerhouse will be eager to win her first gold medal at the Worlds. In the last two editions she stormed to silver, in 2020 behind Van der Breggen, in 2021 behind Van Dijk. The title holder in her turn won gold once before – in 2013, Florence. On last year’s pan flat course in Flanders she took the spoils 10 seconds ahead of Reusser with Van Vleuten in third – at 24 seconds.
Reusser is more successful during the European ITT Championships. She claimed gold in 2021 and 2022, on both occasions ahead of Van Dijk.
