Race report
After 70 kilometer of ferocious racing a group of 9 riders give it a go. Jaakko Hänninen, Fred Wright, Jake Stewart, Alessandro De Marchi, Gregor Mühlberger, Fausto Masnada, Lawson Craddock, Victor Langellotti and Roger Adrià are joined by Vadim Pronskiy, Rudy Molard, Julius Johansen, Nikias Arndt and Anthony Delaplace. Jonathan Caicedo, Daryl Impey, Kamil Malecki and Ibai Azurmendi also join the break.

While Hänninen drops back from the lead group after a crash, Marc Soler goes after the leaders on the Puerto de Gontzagarigana. He makes the catch on the Balcón de Bizkaia. The 18 leaders extend their advantage to more than 5 minutes.

Craddock goes solo on the first climb up the Alto de Vivero, with 45 kilometres to go. He reaches the summit a few metres ahead of Langellotti. The peloton is more than 4 minutes in arrears.

Stewart attacks from the lead group after the first finish passage. He tackles the Alto de Vivero 30 seconds ahead of the chase group, while Soler goes after him with 2 kilometres to climb. He overhauls the Briton 800 metres later.

Soler reaches the summit 10 seconds ahead of Wright, Molard, Pronskiy and Langellotti. Stewart and Craddock rejoin them in the descent before Stewart loses contact on a small uphill kick.

Mühlberger, Arndt, Adria, Impey and Masnada join Wright, Molard, Pronskiy, Craddock and Langellotti inside the last 4 kilometres. The chase lacks pure will power and Soler wins the stage with a lead of 4 seconds.

Molard finishes in fourth place to take the red jersey. Wright sits in second, only 2 seconds down on the race leader.
