Race report
Juan Felipe Osorio opens up a gap after 15 kilometres, while Tim Wellens, Julius van den Berg and Julen Amezqueta track the Colombian down.

Wellens is the only remaining attacker after the Puerto de Guirguillano. Alex Aranburu, Bruno Armirail, Jonathan Hivert and Gonzalo Serrano catch him before the gap widens to more than 4 minutes.

Wellens goes solo with 72 kilometres remaining. He reaches the summit of the Puerto de Urbasa 1.30 minutes ahead of the chasers, while the peloton is 6 minutes in arrears.

While the gap goes down Wellens stops his efforts to rejoin his former companions with 40 kilometres to go. Armirail tries his luck and ahead of the last climb Amador and Carapaz jump across to him.

The Giro winner of 2019 goes alone on the climb, but the peloton brings him back. Meanwhile, Dumoulin is dropped from the back.

LL Sánchez attacks with 5 kilometres left to climb before the GC group brings the Spanish Champion back after a 3 kilometres effort.

Carapaz, Mas, Chaves, Roglic, Kuss, Martin, Carthy, Valverde and Soler reach the summit together before Soler attacks in the descent and Bennett rejoins the chasers.

The Spaniard holds off the chasers to win the race, while Roglic outsprints Martin for second place. The Slovene cements the GC lead with bonus seconds and the Irishmen moves up to second place.
