Race report
Rémi Cavagna and Quentin Jauregui open up a gap in the early phase of the race before Jasha Sütterlin, Tim Wellens and Jetse Bol bridge across. The five widen their lead to almost 4 minutes before the peloton takes conrol.
The peloton regroups just before the penultimate climb, the Alto de Elgeta. Michael Woods crashes on the early slopes, while Ion Izagirre and Chris Froome can’t follow the pace.
Ineos sets the pace on the finish climb before Sepp Kuss attacks inside the last 5 kilometres. Richard Carapaz, Enric Mas, Primoz Roglic and Hugh Carthy rejoin him, while Felix Großschartner and Esteban Chaves bridge across later.
Roglic strikes on the plateau at the top and he solos to victory. Carapaz and Martin sprints to the remaing bonus seconds.
