Race report
Breakaway riders Buchmann, Dillier, Rickaert and Stewart carve out a lead of 9 minutes.

The gap has fallen to 1 minute at the base of Jebel Hafeet. Buchmann heads out alone, while McNulty is dropped from the peloton early in the climb. Leader Vine can’t follow the pace with 7 kilometres to go.

Buchmann is almost caught with 3 kilometres to go. Bilbao jumps across to him and continues on his own. Storer and Van Eetvelt track him down before the young Belgian breaks free. He powers on to take both stage and overall win. O’Connor finishes in second overall, 2 seconds down on Van Eetvelt.

In retrospect, Van Eetvelt’s breakaway day on stage 5 earned him the title, as he took a time bonus of 6 seconds that day.
