Race report
The route takes in a climb to start. Wout Poels and Tao Geoghegan Hart jump off the front before the Dutchman drops the Briton. Meanwhile, Geraint Thomas loses contact in the peloton.

The main group rejoins Poels in the descent.

The pace remains high and Primoz Roglic can’t follow before Poels attacks again on the Côte de Copponex. He reaches the crest alone, which he repeats on the Côte de Menthonnex-en-Bornes.

Kuss, Castroviejo, Woods, Elissonde, Cattaneo, Valverde, Armirail, G. Martin, Paret-Peintre, Quintana, Kragh Andersen, Benoot, Teuns, Juul-Jensen, Yates, Izagirre and Henao bridge across on the run-in to the Côte de Mont-Saxonnex. Again, Poels is the first rider at the summit and he moves into the KOM lead.

Kragh Andersen and Benoot attack on the descent before the Dane goes alone on the Colle de Romme. Woods tracks him down and overhauls him. Van der Poel loses contact in the peloton on the lower slopes.

Pogacar strikes inside the last 4 kilometres of the Romme. Carapaz follows the move once, but a second acceleration and the titel defender is alone. The gap to the front the race? Roughly 5 minutes.

Woods reaches the summit 1 minute ahead of Poels, Cattaneo, Quintana, Izagirre, Martin and Teuns, while Pogacar is 3.40 minutes in arrears. Carapaz is trailing 1.10 minutes behind the title defender.

Teuns tracks down Woods on the Colombière and he leaves the Canadian behind in the last kilometre of the climb. Pogacar is close behind.

Pogacar, Izagirre and Woods come together on descent, but Teuns distances the trio with a solid performance. The Belgian wins the stage with a lead of 44 seconds ahead of Izagirre, while Woods sprints to third place.

Pogacar moves into the overall race lead, almost 2 minutes ahead of Wout van Aert with Alexey Lutsenko in third, 4.38 minutes down on the yellow jersey.
