Race report
A lot of movement, but still no break after 40 kilometres. Then the group splits with 29 riders at the front. Van der Poel, Van Aert, Asgreen, García, Stuyven, Mohoric, Guerreiro, Cavendish, Gilbert, Kragh Andersen, Teunissen, Cort, Nibali, Valgren, Laporte, Yates, Van Baarle, Skujins, Erviti, Konrad, Meurisse, Godon, Schär, Sweeny, Van Moer, Houle, Campenaerts, Bakelants, Van Poppel (Boy), and Bonnamour.

Guerreiro loses contact before the riders enter the hilly zone.

Mohoric and Van Moer take the KOM point at Côte de Château-Chinon before pushing on together. Mohoric adds another point to his tally at the Côte de Glux-en-Glenne. Stuyven and Campenaerts chase the two down with 46 kilometers remaining.

Campenaerts can’t follow the pace on the Côte de la Croix de la Libération and, once again, Mohoric is the first rider at the top.

The Slovene heads out alone on the Signal d’Uchon before he moves into the polka dot jersey at the summit. Meanwhile, another Slovene, Roglic, can’t follow the pace in the peloton. Carapaz does the opposite, he jumps off the front.

While Mohoric powers on to an impressive solo victory, Stuyven finishes as the best of the rest. Cort takes third before yellow jersey Van der Poel cements his GC lead with a fourth position.

Carapaz’ attack dies in the dying metres of the race, so he does not gain any time on his GC rivals.

Roglic comes home almost 4 minutes behind the GC group.
