Tour de France 2014 Favourites Stage 11: Sagan’s chance?

20 Kilometres of uphill in the last 50 means the sprinters may find it difficult to hang on, opening up the opportunity for the classics men like Sagan and John Degenkolb (Slideshow route/profile)

Last year we saw Cannondale up the pace on a similar stage to shed Kittel and Cavendish and deliver Sagan to victory. The reigning green jersey champion will likely look for the same sort of commitment from his team today.

The last hill today is 3 kilometres long and is a category-3 climb. Expect fireworks and the likes of Kristoff and Degenkolb, they will be eager to split the peloton. Maybe even Rui Costa will give it a go today if he’s not too high up on GC. The World Champion is also strong on this terrain.

Another scenario could see a break get away and stay away. In such a case, watch out for the likes of Adam Hansen, Thomas Voeckler and Lieuwe Westra who have won from similar positions.
