Race report
Ryan Mullen, Alexis Gougeard, Jan Tratnik and Anthony Turgis occupy the break of the day. While the four carve out a lead of more than 7 minutes, Turgis takes the maximum amount of KOM points on the intermediate climbs.
Gougeard and Tratnik are last men standing with 20 kilometres left and the gap has fallen to 1 minute.
Teuns takes 1 second in the second intermediate sprint and a little later Jungels, Asgreen, Bilbao, Stuyven and Arndt jump clear. Yet, the peloton takes them back.
Tratnik heads out alone inside the last 7 kilometres. Meanwhile, Ewan is dropped from the peloton due to mechanical problems.
The Slovenian pushes on bravely, but the charging peloton makes the catch just in time. Niccolò Bonifazio is the first to overhaul him with 50 metres left and he wins the race, bike lengths ahead of Iván García and Peter Sagan.
Max Schachmann finishes safely in the main group to extend his lead, still 58 seconds ahead of Søren Kragh Andersen with Felix Großschartner 3 more seconds further behind.
