La Course 2020: Lizzie Deignan wins six-up sprint

At the end of a hilly edition of La Course Lizzie Deignan bests Marianne Vos in a millimetre sprint. Demi Vollering rounds out the podium, while Katarzyna Niewiadoma, Annemiek van Vleuten and Elisa Longo Borghini were also part of the lead group. (Slideshow route/profile)

Race report
Kopecky, Majerus, Niewiadoma, Henderson, Longo Borghini and Uttrup Ludwig distance the peloton in the descent of the first climb. The six widen the gap to almost 1 minute, but the peloton brings them back on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice.

Van Vleuten accelerates when the road starts to climb again. Vos, Niewiadoma, Longo Borghini, Vollering and Deignan riders stick to her wheel. They reach Aspremont more than 1 minute ahead of the first chasers.

Back in the valley of the Var River the six enjoy a lead of 1.30 minutes, which remains the difference when they reach Promenade des Anglais with 6 kilometres remaining.

Vos neutralizes all attacks before she opens the sprint. She opens a gap, but Deignan pips her for the win in the dying metres of the race.
